Lynn Ainsworth - Physical Therapist in Concord, NH

Welcome!

I specialize in working with persistent pain and fatigue, recovery from difficult injuries or surgery, treating complex medical issues, and reducing stress and anxiety.  I foster a relaxing atmosphere that is compassionate, positive, and supportive.  Sessions are 60 to 75 minutes long (evaluations are 90 minutes), in a quiet and comfortable room.

I take the time to get to know each client, and create an effective plan to decrease symptoms and promote healing.  Your care is informed by what you share with me and led by what your body shows me.  Unique, innovative and gentle manual therapy techniques are used in conjunction with traditional physical therapy practices, providing a more authentic approach to healing injuries and chronic conditions, and reduce stress and anxiety.

Clients are equipped with strategies to use at home, including education about exercise, fitness and general wellness to help keep you performing and feeling your best.

My mission is to support your finding joy, strength, and confidence in deeply connecting with your body for improved wellbeing.

ABOUT

I have been practicing physical therapy in the Concord area for the past 25 years, and have over 30 years of experience.

Since completing my education in physical therapy at SUNY at Buffalo in 1992, I completed a 750-hour program in massage therapy at the North Eastern Institute of Whole Health in 2004.   I have received certification as a Kinesio Taping practitioner (CKTP),  and have undergone extensive training in various healing modalities including Integrative Manual Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage, Myofascial Release, and others listed below.

Special interests include pain science, hypermobility spectrum disorder, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Lyme disease, the gut-brain connection, aging well, osteopenia/osteoporosis, somatic therapy, and movement therapy.  I am a member of IASP (International Association for the Study of Pain).

I enjoy the ongoing learning process involved in unraveling the barriers to physical healing, and of seeing how intricate and interconnected the human body is designed.

It is humbling and a joy to participate in creating meaningful change of difficult symptoms, restoring lost function, and bringing forth a renewed sense of wellbeing for my clients.

Outside of work I love to trail run, cycle, hike, paddleboard, kayak, keep bees, organic garden, walk/run the dog, and be with my spouse and friends.

Services

Traditional Physical Therapy

Traditional PT includes postural education, range of motion, stretching, strengthening, joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, low level light therapy (cold laser), and establishment of Home Exercise Programs.  Home programs are monitored and progressed as appropriate.

Integrative Manual Therapy

IMT is manual treatment  with gentle hands-on techniques to promote tissue repair, normalize structure, and restore function.  IMT benefits all types of patients, and treats issues like chronic back pain, migraine headaches, sports related injuries, chronic fatigue, anxiety, and many others.

Myofascial Release

MFR addresses restrictions in the fascial system, which is a 3-dimensional continuous connective tissue that surrounds every cell and fiber in the body. This technique works to normalize the tension of the system, which helps to
facilitate a well-balanced, mobile and symmetrical body.

Lymph Drainage Therapy

LDT is a method of stimulating the lymphatic system, which activates fluid circulation. This method facilitates the reduction of edema,
detoxifies tissue allowing for regeneration, decreases muscle spasms, and strengthens the immune system. LDT can help in the correction of many conditions
such as chronic pain, chronic fatigue, and fibromyalgia.

Other Services

Other modalities I may use include Zero Balancing and Muscle Energy Techniques.

Craniosacral Therapy

CST aids the body’s natural healing process. This therapy works with the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes and
cerebrospinal fluid that surround the brain and spinal cord. The system extends from the skull bones to the tailbone. This system is addressed using light touch to
gently release restrictions in the system, allowing for improved function of the central nervous system. This improves overall health and resistance to disease, and can alleviate a wide range of medical conditions.

Kinesiotaping

KT is a rehabilitative taping technique using a non-allergenic tape that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting range of motion. Kinesiotape alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin and opening the lymph vessels. The tape is used to reduce pain, re-educate the neuromuscular system, enhance performance, prevent injury, and promote circulation.

FAQs

What can I expect?

You can expect one-on-one sessions that are 60-75 minutes long.  Sessions take place in a comfortable and relaxing room.  Your treatment will include discussion of what's been going on for you, gentle manual work, education, therapeutic exercise, and instruction in strategies for what you can do at home.

Do I need a physician’s referral?

No referral is needed, although if you have one, please bring it with you. NH law allows for direct access to physical therapy, which means you can be seen without a referral. If your problems are out of my expertise or scope of practice, I can refer you to the appropriate healthcare provider.

What should I wear?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

I have been seeing Lynne over several years for periodic ailments such as tennis elbow, a knee replacement, and neck issues. Lynne’s ability to recognize what is actually going on in my body and providing hands on PT that works has been incredibly helpful during my recovery. During my several month long knee replacement PT, Lynne worked my knee weekly and provided exercises that would help with flexibility as well as strength. When she is evaluating my pain areas, she can hone in and “feel” what is happening, creates connections in the body, and uses various touch points to alleviate pain. It is truly incredible.
